Well – since Day 8 and today very little has been done. The project manager did not have the full approval of the City of Carlsbad for the remodel of the front gate when they took out the existing gates. Tuesday the contractor put out signs and Wednesday – Day 65 – the contractor began removing the old wooden fence and in the process the backhoe operator was able to break an 8 inch water main.
The park management promised a 12 week remodel – and we are now in week week 10. In spite of the confusion and inconvenience – Lakeshore Gardens is making improvements to the facilities that will benefit the homeowners in the park! Constant improvement and continual maintenance makes Lakeshore Gardens one of the top places to live for those over 55 in San Diego county.
Monday – August 29 – is day 8 of the improvements to the front entrance. If those of you who would like to see the proposed finished product – Jeannie, the Park Manager – has a board in the lobby of the clubhouse showing pictures of the new design! Take a look. The new design blends in with the upstairs and outside Clubhouse improvements that were done last year. The front entrance to our park will be very upscale and something that is very impressive.
In talking to Jeannie this morning she said that the front design and not changed much at all from when the park was first built in the early 1970′s. This is a much needed upgrade. All the utilities come into the park underground on the “out” side of the entrance way. This makes for interesting design work.
Monday the electrical boxes/conduit was removed and the area where the fountains and borders were located was cleaned up. Tuesday we should see new asphalt put in so that in the near future one side or the other can be blocked off for the workers to work on that side.

What can I say. The contractors that the management company hires did not work today, Friday, August 26 – Day 5. So we have had 2 days of work at of 5. I was so full of hope when I saw a full crew out on Thursday working. As you can see from the pictures – they are identical to Thursday afternoon. One of the selling features of Lakeshore Gardens is the gated security from 6 pm to 6 am. I can understand that there will be some time when the gates will not be working – but I did expect that the work would be going on Monday to Friday to quickly restore the feeling of security to the park.
Lakeshore Gardens – no matter the inconveniences of the remodeling projects – is still a great place to live. The beaches only 2 blocks away – the 34 store shopping center right across from this entrance – the close transportation which is the Coaster and I-5 – plus the quality way that the park is maintained. Lots of action and noise and dust on Thursday August 25 – Day 4 of the Lakeshore Gardens front gate improvements in Carlsbad California. The roadway cutting crews were out and cut a strip on each side of the center divider. There were a lot of construction people at the job site! This bodes well for the work being completed quickly.
Then a bobcat was used to remove most of the concrete and asphalt that was in the middle of the front entrance. Erica Davis, Dale and I went on a bike ride and Erica’s bike was too low to the ground to use the “IN” side driveway due to the speed bump that goes completely across the opening.
